One Hour Lectures Stepping into Creativity: Many quilters are happy following a pattern and duplicating a quilt. Others are fearless when it comes into deviating from a pattern and making a design their own. What is it that they have that other quilters don’t? Take a walk down the path of creativity and innovation with Jake and become inspired to quilt out of your comfort zone. Creativity is not a “talent” some of us have and others don’t; it’s a gift we are all given and a muscle to be exercised. Learn how small changes in how you handle a project can lead to big impacts and pick up some tips to keep the creative river flowing.
Making Quilts that Care: Quilters are the most generous crafters imaginable. What guild does not have at least one group of members handling charity projects? Explore some of the more innovative projects aimed at people who are ailing with specific illnesses. From Alzheimer’s disease and other brain impairments to tiny baby quilts destined for the neonatal intensive care unit, these quilts can lend comfort and joy to strangers and loved ones alike. Tips on how to organize your philanthropic efforts by a group are also included, as is information on how color can help in your projects.
12 Steps to Recovering Money from your Fiber Addiction: Do you wake up thinking about quilts? Do you feel like you’re going through de-tox when you can’t get to your sewing machine for a few days? Are you afraid to face the music of your own addiction when looking at your fabric stash? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, you, too, might be a fiber addict. Here’s the good news. You don’t have to go cold turkey and lock your sewing studio. Join Jake as she illustrates ways to earn money from your addiction so you can keep the cycle spinning and reassure your spouse or retirement account at the same time. Hand-outs are offered at each lecture and “live” quilts will be featured. Cost for a one-hour lecture: $250 plus travel expenses
Six Hour Workshops Covering the Basics: Using a standard 3-ring binder, Jake will show you how to make a gorgeous quilted book cover using techniques from her book, “Fast, Fun & Easy Book Cover Art.” With her innovative techniques and some readily available supplies, professional looking book covers can be easily crafted. Cover Art book covers make great gifts and the basic techniques can be adapted to many other projects.
Flapped Journal: Make a beautiful and personal journal cover with a flapped hook & loop closure for your precious thoughts. One of the popular projects from “Fast, Fun & Easy Book Cover Art,” flapped journals can be modified to fit any type of journal.
Bragging Rights: This workshop featuring a trio of simple brag books is really a mini class on playing with fabrics. Using just three fat quarters, plus additional fabric for the inside of the covers, participants will leave the workshop with at least one brag book completed and will be well on their way to completing the other two as they experiment with design, color and embellishments.
Quilted Bed Shawl: Another perfect fat quarter project, this quilted bed shawl was originally designed as a gift for someone who is bedridden or ailing, but can easily be adapted for use as a decorative garment or snazzy gift.
